It’s officially been one week since I’ve been attuned to Reiki! If you don’t know what Reiki is, it is a healing system rediscovered by Dr. Usui in the mid-19th century. (You can read more of the Reiki story in detail by searching google.) It is an intelligent Universal Energy that Reiki practitioners channel through their upper body to heal themselves and others. It’s likened to the laying of hands in Christianity, but much older. The attunements are what set Reiki apart from other healing modalities. During an attunement ceremony, Reiki symbols are sent to the students’ upper chakras via a Reiki Master. Once attuned, it takes 21 days for the Reiki energy to do its job in the body going through all 7 chakras every 7 days. This cleansing prepares the body to be on a higher vibration to become a good healing channel. During this time the negative thoughts and emotions that have been suppressed may surface. Some people will experience mood swings, their eating habits could change, their outlook changes, etc. Others may experience no symptoms at all.
So for my distance Reiki attunement ceremony, I basically sat upright with my hands in prayer position at heart level for 45 minutes. I didn’t feel much during the session. Afterwards I’ve experienced weird head pressure that came and went, and now I have a cold. I’ve also noticed that certain foods that I used to love are becoming a neutral thing to me. Not sure what the rest of the 14 days will bring but it’s all temporary and is a sign that the Reiki is doing it’s job. After November 30th I’ll be able to practice Reiki on others (including distance Reiki) which is very exciting! 🙂
